Services

Every family history project is unique and all my services can be tailored to your individual goals. If you’re unsure where to begin, a Family History Research Project is an excellent starting point.

If you would like advice on which service would best suit your needs, or would like an estimate, please get in touch. I offer a complimentary 30 minute consultation to discuss your project.

Specialist services are charged at £25 per hour. Family History Research Projects are individually quoted following your complimentary consultation. A 50% deposit is required with the balance payable on completion.

Family History Research

A research project is an ideal way to begin or develop your genealogy journey. I offer a range of options to suit different objectives and budgets, helping you build a clearer picture of your family’s past.

Bespoke Research

If you have a specific research objective - such as investigating a particular ancestor, extending a family line, or breaking through a brick wall - this flexible service is tailored to your individual needs. Research is undertaken on an hourly basis, allowing time to be focused where it will have the greatest benefit.

Have you created a family tree but would like reassurance that your research is accurate? I offer a professional review of your existing work, identifying any potential errors, and suggesting further avenues for research. To carry out this review, I will require access to your online tree or a GEDCOM file.

Tree Verification

Old handwriting can be difficult to read. I provide accurate transcriptions of historical documents, together with explanatory notes where appropriate and a brief summary of the document. I transcribe wills, court records, parish records, letters and other historical documents written in English, including those containing limited Latin.

Document Transcription

If you’re carrying out your own family history research but would like some professional support, I offer one-to-one guidance tailored to your needs. Whether you need help interpreting documents, identifying useful records, developing a research strategy or deciding where to look next, I can help you make the most of your research.

Research Guidance

House History

Discover the history of your home and the people who lived there. This service combines the history of a property with research into its former occupants, using records such as census returns, historical maps, directories, newspapers and local archives to build a detailed picture of its past. Each property is unique, and the extent of research will depend on the availability of records and the history of the building itself.

Local Archive Research

I can undertake searches on your behalf at repositories across Northern Ireland, including PRONI, local archives and libraries. I also offer cemetery visits to photograph memorials and record monumental inscriptions. This service is ideal for obtaining copies of documents, checking records, or carrying out targeted local research without the expense of travelling.
